Programs

Congregate Meals
Every week the Senior Center presents congregate meals prepared and donated by Highland Valley Elder Services. Neighbors and friends get together to eat a hot, healthy meal and visit up to three times a week. You are welcome to join us for these meals. They are free of charge, but a small donation would be gratefully accepted. Because we have to order them ahead, we ask you to call us 2 days before you plan to come, (or if you need to cancel) so we can have a hot meal ready for you.

Bread and Soup
On the third Monday of the month (or 4th if the 3rd is a holiday), we are serving fresh made soup from our COA kitchen along with bread from Bread Euphoria and a fresh-baked dessert for only $1.00!  Or you can take home a B&S meal for $2.00 (covers the cost of containers). Volunteer Opportunity! Come in at 9:30 and help make the soup and dessert. Eat lunch for free!  The next B&S meal will be February 24 at 11:45.

Take Home Meals
This fall we were able to contract with Smith Vocational High School for take-home meals. This is a great option for people who want to eat a good, nutritious meal at home. Meals are delivered to the Senior Center on Wednesday mornings. This is a pay-ahead program. Meals are priced at $6.00 each, but your circumstances may allow you to pay less on a sliding scale. Please call Fran to register for this great program.

Brown Bag Program
This is a program in which qualified people can get a supplemental bag of groceries once a month. To apply, call the Senior Center.

Intergenerational Yoga Classes
Ever-popular yoga classes are ongoing at the Senior Center. Led by Jessica Berger, RN, this easy class is great for seniors who want to improve agility and mobility. Many exercises are performed on a chair or using the chair for support. Classes are $40—$50 per month or $10 per class. Drop-ins are $14. Classes meet Thursday afternoons at 1-2 pm. Contact Jessica at 527-1869 to register for the class.

T’ai Chi Exercise Classes
Marty Pninney has been teaching T’ai Chi for many years at the Senior Center. T’ai Chi provides simple exercises that help build energy, power and flexibility. T’ai Chi is $10 per class, meeting Thursdays 10:30-11:30. Call the Senior Center to register.

Osteo Exercise Class
Joan Hicks teaches easy exercises focused on people with osteo-arthritis. Anyone who has difficulty with movement or balance is welcome to join this free class. Many of the exercises are done sitting on a chair, others use the chair for support, and still others use balls for motor skills and strength. Class is held at the Williamsburg Congregational Church. Drop in to join.

Companion Program
If you don’t get out much and would like a companion to visit you for company, rides, shopping, etc., this might be the program for you. Or, if you would like to BE a companion and join our program, please call us!

Medical Rides
The Senior Center offers rides to medical appointments by many individual volunteer drivers. Call at least a few days ahead, so we can find you a driver. If you would like to become a volunteer driver, please contact the Senior Center. Drivers will need to provide a copy of license, registration and be CORI checked. The Drivers are paid per trip.

Podiatry
On the second Wednesday each month, Dr. Michael Coby comes to the Senior Center to provide podiatry services for seniors. To schedule an appointment, call the Senior Center. (268-8407)
